Food, Glorious Food!

Little Man Jack Brennan, ate solid foods for the first time on Sat., Feb. 21st. What was on the menu, you may ask? Butternut squash! He was so cute and got squash everywhere--all over his face, on his clothes, in his hair, and almost up his nose! Much to our surprise, Jack loved his squash! Apparently, he is not like his dad when it comes to his love for veggies!! He had quite the audience for his first solid food experience--no one wanted to miss the big moment! Jay and I were joined by Granny and Grandpa Harris, Aunt Julie and Uncle Ben, and Aunt Katie and Billy. We are still amazed that Jack is getting so big consuming nothing but milk....and now butternut squash!

5 Months Old Today!

Today our little man turned 5 months old! Where does the time go?!? Although many would argue that January and February are hands down the worst months to live in Chicago, this past month has just been so much fun. Jack and I are really enjoying our weekly"Mommy and Me Fitness" class. We sing, dance, and play with the other babies--all while mommy REALLY gets a workout! However, I am not complaining about getting so much of a workout because I am finally almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight--yipee! This month also included Jack's first time rolling over. It is the cutest thing ever. Now, he is just a rolling over machine! Forget tummy time-when we put him on his tummy, he rolls over straight to his back immediately. Then, we clap and although he has no idea why we are clapping, he loves it nonetheless! Our little man also LOVES to talk...of course, he does not make any sense whatsoever, but he will have a conversation with you any time you want. Last Saturday, we took a family trip to the library. It was 68 degrees so we had to get out and enjoy the weather (68 degrees is certainly NOT an en every day occurrence for a Sat. in the month of Feb.!) We checked out some books and a Cookie Monster DVD. When we put the Cookie Monster DVD in for Jack to watch, he got really scared and started to cry (apparently cookie Monster is a little scary for a 4.5 month old!)

As you can see from some of these pictures, he is such a happy little baby. He has the most adorable little smile and we can't get enough of it.

RSV

RSV--respiratory syncytial virus. Until Monday when we took Jack to the doctor's office, I had no idea what this was. Being a new mom, I am fortunate enough to not be aware of many childhood illnesses since this is the very first time that Jack is sick. RSV is basically a very common illness that so many babies get this time of year. It is associated with runny noses, lots of coughing, wheezing, fevers, and basically being all around miserable. When you become a mom, you quickly realize that when anything is wrong with your baby, your world shatters. I know things can be SO MUCH worse and I am thankful that Jack has not been sick until now. I just feel so bad for him. Because he has never been sick, he just does not know what to do (like breathing through his mouth, coughing when he needs to, etc.) He has just been moaning and so uncomfortable. He really wants his mommy all of the time. On Sunday, Jay was holding him and he was upset and then he brought him over to me and put him by my shoulder. He just nestled in and kept touching my face. He just wanted his momma! It truly made my heart melt. Since Sunday, it has been a long week. I am doing everything I can to keep my little man comfortable. He wakes himself up numerous times throughout the night because of his cough and I have learned that allowing him to sleep on my chest seems to help him a little....I will do whatever it takes. I just wish I could do more. Please say a prayer that our little man feels better soon.....
